van2010

Why would someone watch the Olympics (winter or summer) every second year? It may be for the athleticism. It may also be because of the tight clothing. But for me, the medal count is what drags me in. I would love to boast about how well my country did at the Olympics.

Sadly, this game has none of these emotions attached to it. It feels like a group of events that you can just jump in & out of as you see fit. It is fun to play, but is not what you would expect from an Olympic game.

Heavy Rain

Sunday, January 24th, 2010

This game is among one of the most curious titles heading to the PS3. Its gameplay is very heavy on story and is based on your decisions. Basically, you choose how to play out the game. You can even have a main character die and still, the story will conclude. It’s basically an experiement with interactive storytelling and is sure to be something else.

Even though the game isn’t yet released, there is a preview available from Sony on the first eleven out of sixty plus chapters in the game. All four of the playable characters make appearances here and there is a huge variety of gameplay on offer.

You start off as Ethan Mars (architect). Your family is out shopping and this gives you little time to come to terms with the control system. There is a little family interaction when they return and you all end up in the mall.

Gran Turismo 5

Sunday, January 24th, 2010

GT5 has almost been released. We have gotten a glimpse at the game in the Prologue but it is now even more apparent that the Prologue was not an indicator of how the final game is shaped. Be it damage or visuals or a redone physics & driving engine, the game is a completely different experience as compared to the Prologue.

The Time Trial demo was the 1st taste of the actual game. Even though damage is off, the visual prowess is clearly visible and we get to test the new physics engine, which I must say, works like a dream

Army of Two: The 40th day

Thursday, January 21st, 2010

This game literally feels like a case where Bad Boys are introduced to 2012. It is an interactive disaster game as there is something blowing up almost every five minutes. This gives you an adrenaline rush while you are fighting through enemies or simply surviving what the game dishes out at you.

Almost every aspect of the game has been imrpoved in this release, compared to the last game. This game spans over only a few days and is based in Shanghai.

Final Fantasy XIII

Thursday, January 21st, 2010

Final Fantasy XIII, no doubt, is among the most anticipated role-playing games from Japan. This title, by Square Enix, is usually produced keeping the Japanese markets in mind, but that does not mean it doesn’t cater to a global audience.

Lightning, the main character, looking as crisp as ever, was part of the demo as well as new characters Fang and Hope. The bandana brawler, Snow, too was kept in reserve.

Uncharted 2 Online Multiplayer Website Update

Monday, January 11th, 2010

I played through Uncharted 2 and beat it recently (after playing the first iteration of the game, I could barely put either of them down until I beat them), and after I completed it I decided to check out the online component of the game.

I was very surprised. In a very good way. Most games that have a super single player campaign really dwell on it and skip out on the multiplayer game all together or leave out so much detail that it isn’t worth your time to even attempt to play it. Uncharted 2: Among Thieves is the exception. The online multiplayer is phenomenal.

Sony and Panasonic Propose 33.4 GB Blu-ray Update

Monday, January 11th, 2010

Sony and Panasonic two of the largest members of the Blu-ray Disk Association are proposing a new technology that will allow Blu-ray disks to store 33.4 GB instead of the original 25 GB that Blu-ray disks can already store. Most games on the PS3 do not even come close to this mark in terms of data needed except a rare exception of Metal Gear Solid 4 and a handful of others, but this update could bring much more than more load times.
