Delay News: Batman – Arkham Asylum 2 release put off?

Saturday, April 24th, 2010

batmanarkhmasylumbannerAccording to several sources, Warner Bros. will delay releasing Batman: Arkham Asylum 2 until early next year, including the PS3 version. Gamers had been hoping for a pre Christmas release though this was never made official, and gamers should know better than to always trust rumors regarding release dates.

The game was so popular that a Game of the Year edition was recently released into the marketplace, and the game overall has sold quite well.

Furthermore, Warner Brothers bought a large stake in the developer, Rocksteady Games, a move meant to secure more money and profit for WB. The supposed theory from the retail source (and common sense) is that Warner Bros. would like to release the game in the first quarter of 2011 to avoid the pre Christmas rush and be able to dominate the first quarter when other publishers are not out in force. Is this a good strategy? What do you guys think?

We’ll see if it makes the game better in the long run.

Update: Firmware update fixes issues, preps console for 3D

Thursday, April 22nd, 2010

playstation-3-game-console2Remember when we reported about a firmware update for the PS3 causing lots of problems? Well, the newest release has come out, and things are looking better. Here’s a release from the Network Operations person for Sony’s PS3 Division:

“Hi everyone, in our continued effort to provide the best, most comprehensive entertainment experience possible, we’ll be adding a few new features to PlayStation 3 (PS3) via the latest system software update, which is a mandatory update and will be available shortly. Most notably, you’ll see some new sorting options within Trophies that make it easier to claim bragging rights among your friends on PlayStation Network.”

  • Trophy enhancements –- Now you can more easily sort trophies in the [Trophy Collection] and [Comparing Trophy] sections. Sorting can be done with [Trophy Collection] in the [Game Category] and also when comparing trophies with your friends in the [Friend Category]
    • Trophy Folder (Title List) can be sorted by game name/ by title according to the date in which you earned your last trophy (ascending/descending)
    • Add-on list (Group list) can be sorted by original/the date in which you earned your last trophy (ascending/descending)
    • Trophy list can be sorted by original/trophy name/grade/date of obtaining the trophy (ascending/descending)

In addition, this update preps the PS3 system for some upcoming new features, including 3D stereoscopic gaming, which is coming soon to PS3, in time for the launch of Sony’s 3D BRAVIA TVs.

Hopefully this update will stick and not cause too many issues.

Just Cause 2 Review

Thursday, April 22nd, 2010

just_cause_2If you are familiar with the game Just Cause, then you will know that it was a fantastic third person action game and you probably wondered how it could ever be beaten. Well, Just Cause 2 has recently been released for the PS3 and we had a quick look at the game, and have nothing to say but good things to say about it.

Just cause 2 is an extremely action packed game, and you could even say that it is the game equivalent of a Rambo movie. It is the type of game that you will want to play purely for all the explosions and big pretty lights. The story of the game is easily negligible and you’d probably never really take any notice of it, or need to take any notice of it throughout the whole of your game play experience.

So, what makes Just Cause 2 unique? Well, although when you get into the game, it will be one of the most action packed games you have ever played, it seems that the developers have tried to fool you during the beginning of the game. They have chosen to start the game off with a large injection of storyline and certain fetch quests, but don’t worry; there will still be the odd gunfight there in order to keep you on your toes. There are also a few parachute jumps in the beginning part of the game which will help to liven things up, even if it is spoilt a little bit by the fact that at this stage in the game, you are still trying to learn how to control your character.

As you get further into the game, there’s lots of chasing leads and searching for certain contacts to be done. This is really all there is to the game, although there is a story, you will never really notice it and you will spend most of your time blowing things up and getting yourself involved in gunfights. And what more could you want really? Who hasn’t always wanted to be a secret agent that goes around blowing things up and shooting things? It is the perfect action game.

It’s easy to view the fact that the story isn’t relevant is a bad thing, but this can also be considered to be a plus point. It means that the game is never taken too seriously and is more about having fun, and so is a recommended purchase.

Game Prediction: Splinter Cell – Conviction coming soon

Tuesday, April 20th, 2010

E3-2009-Splinter-Cell-Conviction-a-360-Exclusive-Trailer-1It’s been no secret at all that Splinter Cell: Conviction may appear on the PS3, however a few leaks have more or less confirmed that Conviction will appear on the PS3 sometime this year. Us being the curious sorts we are, we wanted to report to you the latest juice regarding this popular, much-awaited game.

Glancing at the resume of Ubisoft 3D Animator Michael Donnell, a PlayStation 3 version of Splinter Cell: Conviction is listed, which is usually a pretty good sign that a game of that title is in the works. This isn’t the first time it’s been listed on an Ubisoft staffer’s resume either, another rather clear sign.

GamesRadar, a popular gaming site with a decent track record of predicting upcoming games for various platforms, also took the liberty of predicting when they think Splinter Cell: Conviction will arrive on PS3 as well, probably mid to late-summer or so. E3 may carry a more official announcement of the date, hopefully.

Call of Duty Modern Warfare 2 Tips and Tricks

modern warfare 2

modern warfare 2

Ok, I am guessing you have reached this article after being killed many times on Modern Warfare 2. On Modern Warfare 2 you have both good and bad days and even professional players don’t go positive 100% of the time.

Class Setup
Now first we will go over the thing that separates this game from the many FPS games, classes. You can’t go positive if you hate the weapon you are using. Some great classes are;
A Pistol with Tactical Knife and any primary weapon. Perks are Marathon, Lightweight and Commando. If you haven’t unlocked the tactical knife then use the ‘First Recon’ class which has a .44 Magnum with Tactical Knife and Marathon, Lightweight and Ninja. You will unlock the Tactical knife while using this class to knife people. The best maps for this class are the smaller, inside maps.
An Assault Rifle with a Grenade Launcher and perks of One Man Army, Danger Close and Any third perk. With this class you constantly use your Grenade Launcher and once you are empty, use One Man Army to ‘switch’ to the same class. If you haven’t unlocked One Man Army then Scavenger is a good alternative. The Best Maps for this are medium-large maps as you don’t want to get in a close range fire fight with a Grenade Launcher. This will get hate mail though so don’t use it ‘back to back.’
If you understand quick scoping then you could try using the Intervention (preferably with FMJ) along with Sleight of Hand PRO, stopping power and any third perk. A quick Google search will find you videos, tutorials and more on how to quick scope. It all comes with practice and preferably try it in a Private Match with friends. This class is probably the least fool proof although if you get good at quick scoping then you can rack up 30+ kills in a single match. Not to mention if you quick scope on the final kill cam expect a lot of cheers as quick scoping is probably the most eye pleasing kill cam.
Now you have a class set up we need to go over some basic tips that will help regardless of class.

Sound

You must always be looking to your sides and behind you. If you have a high sensitivity then this will help but at the same time if a high sensitivity is hard for you, no point in enabling it!

Rumor Mill: A New Silent Hill game coming soon?

Monday, April 12th, 2010

sh1Sometimes rumors are rumors, but interpretation is a very inexact science. But if we’re any good at it at all, an “unnamed editor” at Konami Digital Entertainment has basically confirmed to Dutch website Gamer NL that a brand new next-generation PS3/XBox 360 Silent Hill title is in production and due to be released this year sometime more than likely.

Disappointingly, details regarding the project are spotty and scattered, as is the want of many game companies, it seems. We do know that that Double Helix Games, the developer that made Silent Hill: Homecoming, is not involved in this project for whatever reason, a falling out perhaps?

However, our comrades in the Netherlands were treated to a short unreleased trailer in which a character is attacked by an apparition while wondering the streets of a creepy, town, which shows some details about the upcoming game in an albeit unreleased form.

It’ll be interesting to see how this story develops.

PS3 Update Not So Great: Firmware 3.21 causing issues

Wednesday, April 7th, 2010

sony-ps3-firmware-update-wishlist-copyEarlier this month Sony released the official, long-awaited firmware 3.21 for the PS3, an update which (quite controversially) removed the ‘Install Other OS’ option from the and “discouraged” users from dual-booting. Many people are quite angry at Sony’s decision to rip the feature out, but now the update is causing stability issues for some users.

The issues that have recently come up have been reported at the PlayStation Forums, and issues include not being able to turn on the unit, inability to load discs, freezing while loading discs, and more headaches similar to this.  Users are up in arms, and understandably so.

We hope Sony is hard at work trying to restore these users to playability and fix what has been a huge hassle for some users. Sony really needs to more carefully test and debug future releases, or it could damage the rep of a great game machine that’s just really hitting its stride about now.

PS3: A Girl’s Point of View and Top 5 ‘Female’ Games

Monday, April 5th, 2010

618IQQNbvUL._SL500_AA300_It’s a common misconception that consoles and their games are 99% the domain of younger boys and males in general. Well, this isn’t always the case, as various articles on the net have pointed out. There are plenty of females who love playing console games, and we’ve found an article with 5 popular PS3 can’t-miss picks for females of all ages and types. A quote from the article:

Upcoming Game: Mafia II

Monday, April 5th, 2010

mafia_2_ps3_fob_bbfc.thumbnailWe always like to bring new game news to our readers, so in the spirit of that thought: 2K Games recently announced that Mafia II will be available on August 27, 2010 in the UK for the PS3, as well as other platforms.

Mafia II is being worked in by 2K Czech, the same team behind the award-winning Mafia, which garnered lots of positive press for its unique gameplay, so there shouldn’t be much falloff from the original game.

More about the game from their press junkets:

Through a compelling narrative, Mafia II transports gamers into the dark and unforgiving world of the Mafia. The fiction is embellished by a sophisticated, era-evoking atmosphere that meticulously replicates the clothing, cars, music and advertising of 1940’s and 1950’s Americana. Players will easily become immersed in the game’s cinematic Hollywood-style experience with strong, believable characters in a living, breathing metropolis. By fusing high-octane gunplay with white-knuckle driving and an engaging narrative, Mafia II looks to be the industry’s most compelling Mafia title to date.

We really are looking forward to this title, and it’ll be something PS3 owners should have a spot in their library reserved for it.
