Makeover: PES 2010 to get a fresh coat of paint

Saturday, May 29th, 2010

pes2010_messi_pr01_rgb_psd_jpgcopyIt looks like PES 2010 will get an all new makeover for their new edition due to be released for the PS3 soon. Those looking forward to the World Cup will get a nice taste of “football” to get their juices flowing.

More from the press release:

The Japanese developer has recently announced that 18 National Teams will get a kit refresh as part of an approaching DLC package for the 2010 instalment of Pro Evolution Soccer. Japan, Ghana, Ivory Coast, Argentina, Brazil, Ireland, Italy, England, Greece, Croatia, Sweden, Spain, Germany, France, Netherlands, Portugal, Australia and Korea will all be kitted-out with fresh strips.

Not only that but surprise entries and exits from national squads will also be updated, continuing PES’s dedication to realism whilst embracing the drama of this year’s World Cup.

This dip in the pool edition will be available via the PlayStation Store on June 8th for free, so soccer fans can rejoice and take part in the festivities.

Delayed: Sonic 4 pushed back for ‘polish’ reasons

Tuesday, May 25th, 2010

sonic4We reported a bit ago about Sonic the Hedgehog 4 Chapter 1 and its upcoming release soon for the PS3. Well, apparently they intend to push it back a bit for ‘extra work on the design of levels and more time to polish the game for a classic Sonic feel’.

While we appreciate the extra work being put into the game, we now know that this will be summer without Sonic now more than likely, which is the part of this story we don’t like.

It’s good to see the care taken to ensure a quality Sonic product, though. The good news is the first gameplay trailer has been released and is looking very promising for its future. Check it out here: Link

We’ll keep an eye on this as it approaches release, of course. It should be pretty awesome (or you would hope so with the extra time being taken).

PS3 Purchase Impetus: Blu-Ray, not Games?

Sunday, May 23rd, 2010

playstation-3Why do people buy the PS3? Yes, awesome games, but why else? It appears (according to Nielsen anyway) its the Blu-Ray player built-in, even if there was a brief point where it got zapped by an update. Strange given that HD BR players are approaching the sub-$100 mark quickly and the PS3 is $300, but hey…cool games count for something right?

The company surveyed 700 random people who purchased the gaming console why they did so. Number one on the checkoff list: “I want the Blu-ray capabilities.”

Blu-ray was followed by the recent PS3 price reduction to $299 (smaller price is always good these days), desire to upgrade from the PS2, and interest in connecting with friends who have the PS3.

HD and cool games seem to go hand-in-hand on many people’s list, and we appreciate both reasons equally.

Marvel vs. Capcom 3: First preview and screenshots

Monday, May 17th, 2010

marvel-vs-capcom-3There have been rumors of a follow-up to Marvel vs. Capcom for the PS3, and now according to a site here: information and a few screenshots, the game is on its way and here’s the scoop being reported from several sources:

The first scan shows nine confirmed characters for the game, 3 of which are new: Dante (Devil May Cry), Chris Redfield (Resident Evil series) and Deadpool. The rest of the nine fighters include Captain America, Iron Man, The Hulk, Wolverine, Felicia and Morrigan. How odd there is no Ryu on the character bios page but however there will be more information on the characters in the game.

For those who are rather keen to know which DMC Dante is from, we can only guess that he has been taken from the third entry as that he is younger self but this is not confirmed by any means. The veteran zombie killer Redfield seems to be from RE5. Interestingly he’s packing a shotgun in the game play which probably does even up the odds. The rest of the screenshots shows Ryu going up against Wolverine and Morrigan fighting Iron Man. As a side note, one of the arenas seems to be on top of the Daily Bugle or at least near the area. This probably has implied that Spiderman will return to the series as well. So far the art direction of the game is indeed mixing a bit of Street Fighter IV with its own brand. As ever though, we can only speculate till we see actual game footage which is most likely to be released at E3 to hype fans up.

Hopefully, the same lives up to the same standards as the rest of the series.

Leaked: Little Big Planet 2 Info/Screenshots

Monday, May 10th, 2010

Little-Big-Planet-2Well, it was only a matter of time before word leaked, and now it has. Screenshots of the sequel to the ultra-popular ”Play. Create. Share.” genre-buster LittleBigPlanet were leaked yesterday at CVG, and you can head over there to see more info and shots.

These screenshots reflect tons of updates the new game offers, such as very customizable AI known as “Sackbots”, and full integration with the Playstation Move motion controller, giving it an almost-Wii like quality. The graphics have also been polished further with the new version, and should capture the attention of millions of gamers worldwide.

LittleBigPlanet 2 is being created by Media Molecule (which happened to be acquired by Sony last year) and released  exclusively for the PS3. Current rumors give the game a late-summer/early Fall 2010 release date, so we shouldn’t have long to wait to see the finished product.

Cat Out Of The Bag: New Tony Hawk game news released (sort of) by accident

Tuesday, May 4th, 2010

Tony-HawkA bit ago on his Twitter account, well-known skateboarder Tony Hawk blurted out (seemingly without consent from the company making his game) that the next title in the long-running smash hit Tony Hawk videogame series will be called Tony Hawk: SHRED. Cool title, but interesting circumstances involving the title.

Here’s a snippet of what he tweeted:

“Tony Hawk: Shred. There, I said it. Actually, I named it. Somewhere a PR team is reeling.”

And he wasn’t wrong; sure enough, his comment was removed within hours. But we aim to bring you the latest breaking news, so here it is.

Activision has since confirmed this news is correct, however, and more details will be released in the coming months. We’re excited, but hoping no pricy or bulky side peripherals will be needed for this one to play. The PS3 controllers are more than adequate for many gaming purposes.

We’ll give you more details as we learn them.

Bonus: BC2 players will get special access to MOH weapon

Monday, May 3rd, 2010

Medal-of-Honor-2010-BannerAnyone who’s played the Recon role in Battlefield: Bad Company 2’s multiplayer mode knows the deadliness of the feared M24 weapon. Fixed with a Leupold Mk.4 LR/T M3 10×40mm front-focal scope, killing enemies from 600 yards away is easy as pie. This one sends any good sniper to salivating.

With the purchase of the upcoming BC2 for the PS3, you’ll get a special bonus described in several blogs below:

As the official Battlefield blog explains, those who have purchased B:BC2 new, and claimed the VIP code packaged with the game, will have instant access to the M24 in Medal of Honor’s multiplayer mode automatically. However, EA stipulates that those who have bought a VIP code via the in-game store having acquired their copy of B:BC2 second-hand will not be able to take advantage of this offer.

Now that we like the sound of, and crossover gaming is a nice new trend we’re seeing in more games these days.

Release Date: Next Call of Duty game announcement

Sunday, May 2nd, 2010

cod71Treyarch’s coming Call of Duty entry, Black Ops (a title much anticipated in the console community) will hit store shelves on November 9th of this year. That’ll put it right into the thick of holiday buying decisions, which was probably the plan to begin with.

This information comes via the official website (just activated recently) for the rumoured Vietnamese-themed FPS. The site itself is sort of short on detail aside from a fast-paced video clip and the date itself, but here’s the official quote from the game makers themselves:

“We at Treyarch are excited to reveal our latest development – Call of Duty: Black Ops! Be sure to head over to CallOfDuty.com/blackops as more details begin to unfold! Follow @JD_2020 and @Treyarch on Twitter for the latest news & discussions regarding Black Ops.”

We’re glad they finally let the cat out of the bag, this one (scheduled to be released for the PS3 on that date) should be pretty breathtaking to play.
