Sonic 4 Preview: Episode 1

Sunday, June 27th, 2010

sonic4Sonic has been a frequent first console experience for many a gamer, and now Sonic is aiming to ‘jump’ (pun intended) into the new millenium with Sonic 4: Episode 1. There’s now an official preview video posted up for all to see.

It also appears that, unlike the original game, it’s not all going straight ahead as fast as you can. It’s still important to go fast, but in Sonic 4 you can’t just run straightforward to conquer the level. This time you’ll need to jump, use homing attacks and speed dash frequently – and that’s not all there is to it. You’ll also find yourself swinging from vine to vine, running through various loops, and bouncing from bumper to bumper, among other activities.

Sonic the Hedgehog 4 is scheduled to release on the PS3 Network sometime late Fall or so. No price has been set yet, but we’ll keep you updated as to the status. Want to watch the video? Its right here: Link

Wake Up: Dark Awake heading to PSN later this year

Monday, June 7th, 2010

untitled2Love your fighting games fantasy style? PSN/PS3 might have just the ticket for you later this year.

Dark Awake, created by Korean developer Eolith, is a 2D sprite-based fighter that is said to be Taito’s 2004 Chaos Breaker game operating under its pre-release title. It is believed that developer Recom acquired rights to the game, so the name was changed to accomodate its new home.

Including a 22-strong cast consisting of various trolls, barbarians and dwarves guaranteed tough enough to strike fear into the hearts of any joystick warrior, a number of offline and online game types and full Trophy support, this one sounds pretty intense, if early reports are to be believed. There’s a shortage of classic fighting games for the PS3 platform, so we like this one.

Dark Awake will arrive on the Japanese PSN in a few months or so, and it will be priced at ¥2000 or so. According to rumors, the US and European releases schedules are still to be confirmed, but we’re thinking early Winter.

More Details: Talking Call Of Duty – Black Ops

Monday, June 7th, 2010

Blackops-crossbowAussie blog site games.on.net recently interviewed Dan Bunting and Mark Lamia, Senior Producer and Studio Head at Treyarch respectively, to speak about Call of Duty: Black Ops, and they had some light bragging and thoughts for the PS3 fans to mull over for their upcoming FPS opus.

It’s clear from the videos leaked that the developer is aiming quite high with this year’s installment of the hugely popular FPS series, vowing to create “the best game [they] can possibly make”, which is truly saying something given the previous history of the series.

The title will include a big action-adventure component, an online multiplayer – of course - and a specially-crafted cooperative mode and of course, the great scoped crossbow we’ve already seen that people are drooling over. All of that sounds pretty amazing.

Tech aspects are also upgraded and include better animation and better overall graphics quality as well with their ‘texture streaming’ thing incorporated into the game as well. We’re definitely looking forward to this one coming out.

Release Date: Next Call of Duty game announcement

Sunday, May 2nd, 2010

cod71Treyarch’s coming Call of Duty entry, Black Ops (a title much anticipated in the console community) will hit store shelves on November 9th of this year. That’ll put it right into the thick of holiday buying decisions, which was probably the plan to begin with.

This information comes via the official website (just activated recently) for the rumoured Vietnamese-themed FPS. The site itself is sort of short on detail aside from a fast-paced video clip and the date itself, but here’s the official quote from the game makers themselves:

“We at Treyarch are excited to reveal our latest development – Call of Duty: Black Ops! Be sure to head over to CallOfDuty.com/blackops as more details begin to unfold! Follow @JD_2020 and @Treyarch on Twitter for the latest news & discussions regarding Black Ops.”

We’re glad they finally let the cat out of the bag, this one (scheduled to be released for the PS3 on that date) should be pretty breathtaking to play.

Upcoming Game: Mafia II

Monday, April 5th, 2010

mafia_2_ps3_fob_bbfc.thumbnailWe always like to bring new game news to our readers, so in the spirit of that thought: 2K Games recently announced that Mafia II will be available on August 27, 2010 in the UK for the PS3, as well as other platforms.

Mafia II is being worked in by 2K Czech, the same team behind the award-winning Mafia, which garnered lots of positive press for its unique gameplay, so there shouldn’t be much falloff from the original game.

More about the game from their press junkets:

Through a compelling narrative, Mafia II transports gamers into the dark and unforgiving world of the Mafia. The fiction is embellished by a sophisticated, era-evoking atmosphere that meticulously replicates the clothing, cars, music and advertising of 1940’s and 1950’s Americana. Players will easily become immersed in the game’s cinematic Hollywood-style experience with strong, believable characters in a living, breathing metropolis. By fusing high-octane gunplay with white-knuckle driving and an engaging narrative, Mafia II looks to be the industry’s most compelling Mafia title to date.

We really are looking forward to this title, and it’ll be something PS3 owners should have a spot in their library reserved for it.

Rumors/News: Call of Duty 7: Black Ops

Tuesday, March 30th, 2010

treylogoMap Mod News has posted a juicy report: Activision has apparently shared some bits of info about Call of Duty 7: Black Ops, the next installment in the huge CoD franchise. We know, you can’t wait. Here’s the scoop from the company itself:

Black Ops will be set historically somewhere between World War II and present day, with a heavy emphasis on the Cold War and Vietnam. The ever-popular (and much-requested) Nazi Zombies mode introduced in Call of Duty: World at War will make a welcome return, and there is even talk of providing dedicated servers to host the title’s online multiplayer component.

Treyarch, the developer behind 2009’s famed WWII first-person shooter, is already hard at work on Activision’s next project. If all goes well, we might see Black Ops hit high street shelves no later than November this year.

Well, this is welcome news indeed, and Turkey time can’t come soon enough for us this year.

Secret Revealed: A new SOCOM game?

Saturday, March 6th, 2010

4406155387_d419ec72d0Remember when we talked about a secret game to be revealed exclusively for the PS3 from Sony? Well, the secret is out: It’s a new SOCOM sequel, and the graphics look pretty intense so far, from what’s been revealed.

It’ll feature all new graphics designed from the ground up for the PS3, new maps, teamwork modes and lots of other goodies. Release isn’t set yet, but late summer or so is a safe bet, we think. The last SOCOM game was considered a critical disappointment, so it’ll be curious to see how they improve the game.

Here’s a link to the official announcement from one of the inside guys at the company on the PS3 blog: Link
