Latest FF News: FFVII PS3 HD Remake Off (For Now)

Monday, February 8th, 2010

Final_Fantasy_VII_Front_PageThe much-rumored, anticipated Final Fantasy VII PS3 HD remake that was reported by a number of sites reportedly isn’t going to happen after all, it appears. The latest reason (excuse?) Square is putting out there? A HD makeover of the PSX classic game is too tricky to reproduce on PlayStation 3 and that the “style” of the game would take too much work to complete. Never mind that it would sell well; that isn’t the point, really.

FFVII’s sprawling landscape is huge and would be a huge task, we admit, but boy would it be nice to behold if it was done. Oh well, at least the rumor mill on this hasn’t quite died yet.

“It is a result of considering HD graphics will be the mainstream. Considering the amount of work to make graphics that deserve HD, it is hard to make towns in the conventional style,” Square’s Motomu Toriyama stated during a recent interview. We agree, to a point. This company, with their resources, could do it in a reasonable amount of time, but we suppose they’ve done their homework and determined it wouldn’t be worth it, financially speaking.

Keep watching this site though, as you never know when these rumors will spring up again.
